Visualizing Climate Impact in Unexpected Hues
Gold in the Poster Awards 2026, Franziska Stetter’s Unexpected Hues – Human Impact on Ocean Colors turns climate data into a striking visual language. Through a series of six posters, Stetter maps the shifting colors of our oceans to real world coordinates tied to phytoplankton growth, algal blooms, plastic pollution, oil spills, ocean acidification, and melting ice. The work bridges science and design, translating environmental disruption into gradients that are as beautiful as they are unsettling, inviting viewers to see the ocean not as blue, but as a record of human impact.
