Simon Blake

Bio:

My career has taken a series of diversions and paths over the past 25 years. I studied graphic design, illustration and mixed-media film in England.... I went onto to teach children 35mm 'scratch' animation, created film titles for numerous Hollywood and British screen feature films. After working with brilliant film title designer Richard Morrison and a brief stint at the BBC working with the Emmy award winning graphic/motion designer Antony Buonomo on 'Comic Relief' and several other tv shows, I was fortunate enough to work with the superb mixed-media directors Osbert Parker and Charlie Watson in London and Los Angeles. Before starting my commercial career, I was incredibly lucky to have worked on a mixed-media film project with the director Rupert Wainwright and surrealist South African writer Barry Yourgrau on his wonderful book “The Sadness of Sex” and directed one of the films vignettes “Domestic Intelligence.” This was followed by a 10 year tenure with the superlative creative trio of Lisa Mehling, Alison Amon and Steve Wax at Chelsea Pictures, NYC/LA directing commercials and mixed media projects for many Fortune 500 companies. My commercial clients have included Microsoft, Coca-Cola, Hewlett Packard, AT&T, Chase Bank, Levi Strauss & Co., United Airlines, Jazz and Heritage Festival, American Cancer Society, Chase Bank, Intel, Entergy, Nestlé, Burger King, Audubon Zoo, Charles Schwab, Maine State Lottery, Heineken, Hershey, Barnes and Noble, Disney, Crayola, Pepperidge Farm, CenturyLink, New York Lottery etc. My work has been shown at Sundance, Cartoons on the Bay, Amalfi, Italy and has garnered two AICP awards and is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art, and has been shown throughout the world. My other life has included working numerous jobs on farms as a soil sampler for a fertilizer company, perfecting the art of cooking roast chicken, car-auto detailing and singing professionally as a counter tenor in England at the The Guildhall School of Music & Drama and in several cathedral choirs including The choir of St Albans Abbey under the auspicious direction of Dr. Barry Rose. Since then my work has diversified into graphic design, branding and collage work. My work is in private collections including the USA, Australia and Europe.
