Dana Buckley
Bio:
Award-winning photographer Dana Buckley achieves a striking sense of intimacy in her work – whether she is exploring the flora of the California desert, the... hidden alleys of Cuba or the bond between a mother and child. Rich and sensual, her photographs of the natural world invite the viewer to see beyond the familiar and appreciate the both simplicity and nuanced beauty of her subjects. At the same time, the play of light on these close-up images often create a dreamy, abstract quality. It is work that Frank Stella says “glows with surprising promise.” Dana began her career as fashion photographer but quickly gravitated to the more spontaneous, uncontrived work of photographing children. She excelled in this field and spent more than 15 years working for national magazines and ad campaigns. In 2000 Dana expanded her career by directing commercials for television and in 2004 she published her first book of photographs: “Dana Buckley: 50,” a series of haunting floral images displayed in platinum. Her second book, “Living Desert,” an exquisite collection of desert flora rendered in transcendent, meditative detail, has been compared to the work of Georgia O’Keefe. She is currently working on a collection of ethereal cloud photographs. Her work is available at Howard Greenberg Gallery in New York or online.
