It includes an itinerant exposition, a website and a free e-book. From 18.000 photographs taken during 4 months 230 were delivered in hand to the people who gave me the honor to take an snapshot of their lives. And I selected 10 for the itinerant exposition which has been displayed in 3 Reservations of the Nasa and Misak people so far.
Close to my home are building a new highway, I have to pass through it almost every day and ever think how it looks like some kind of contemporary exposition. Ergo my bro and me stepped in the construction place some nights ago and I took various photographs with the flash light.
My idea was to build a surreal setting using the strong light against the objects surrounded of darkness and make use of the sculptorical properties of the concrete, earth, separations, etc. The B&W film was drowned in salt water for a night and then developed. This pieces are scans of the negative film, I want to use the aesthetics the scanner brings, is part of the experimentation processes I'm practicing right now. Is a project in development.
Surreal and dark approach to the city. Moscow Foto Awards 2014 Thrilled of be among the honor mentions. http://on.be.net/c3CLvi
The contemporary notion of man (as a social construction) in western culture is part of a process that includes the arts as a mirror and a builder of stereotypes. Visual thoughts about how my self perception as a man is the fruit of all that cultural, social, and even economic references.
This project is about male stereotypes and how they have been build in western culture with an strong influence of visual arts. From painting and sculpture to photography and mass-media the idea of a man is a social construction full of all the values and prejudices of a given culture and society.
It is an idea so ever present that seems almost invisible and we seems to accept it without think about it. For this reason I decided to look for traditional poses and use the mixture of analogical and digital procedures of capture and reproduction, as a metaphor of that monolithic and many times oppressive FROZEN ideal of what means to be a man.
ISO 400 film frozen over almost a month, then developed, scanned and digitally transformed to positive. All the technical process is part of the metaphor about the self image is a construct.
Winner of honor mention in the Grand Prix de la Photographie, Paris 2013.
