My personal project of Ramos Bros. Circus.
Ever since we moved to the foot of Mt. San Jacinto which towers above Coachella Valley in California, we have found ourselves fascinated by the culture and character of the area and its surroundings. One time we were driving towards Joshua Tree and spotted circus trucks parked in the field in Yucca Valley. We stopped and found out that a circus just rolled into town. My personal series about Ramos Bros. Circus.
The polar plunge has always been popular in Finland, even in the darkest of winter nights you can find women and men, young and old huddled up together in a hot sauna getting ready for the frozen water. My personal photo series Avanto.
Polo is the sport of kings. Here is Coachella Valley it belongs to everyone. The noble origins run through the grounds, and obvious tradition but my lens is drawn to the physicality of it, the preparation, the stables, the work and sport. And also to the relationships, among teammates, between ponies and riders, even those of dogs and their duties.
Personal project. Returning to Finland, another beautiful summer in Orivesi, I found myself drawn to the water in a new way. Taking off from our summer house, as I often have, in a wooden rowboat, I was off to do something or off to do nothing. There is a rich tradition of rowing in Finland; it is both a practical pursuit to fish or catch crayfish and a leisurely one, an easy way to get fresh air and a little exercise. But this summer was different, the boat and my time on the water became something else. Soutu = rowing
