Meet Joseph Szala, the founder and multi-faceted crafter of brands at Vigor. Possessing an array of talents rooted in design principles and brand leadership, Joseph... is well seasoned with restaurant industry experience, brand strategy expertise, and an unyielding passion for realizing the potential of restaurant brands. Working at numerous agencies and firms in the New York City and Pennsylvania markets, he quickly noted that the processes offered to clients were composed of merely smoke and mirrors to give the illusion of an organized, systematic approach to their invaluable brands. The resulting work seemed like nothing more than a “spaghetti of ideas” thrown against a wall to see what would stick with little to no regard for actual results. This revelation lead to the creation of Vigor in 2003 with the goal of creating a true process that would not only provide real results, but also generate them for all types of clients. In late 2006, under Joseph’s leadership, Vigor focused its services solely on the restaurant industry. Since pursuing that niche, he has made it his mission and primary focus to customize the proprietary branding process for the restaurant industry. That process has been leveraged to create new, innovative restaurant concepts from Honolulu to Boston and from Miami to Seattle. 2010 saw the publication of his first book, Fire It Up: Building Restaurant Brands That Blaze. Joseph authored and curated the book in response to a need for a no-nonsense approach to developing restaurant brands. The book has been integral in helping clients and designers better understand the ins and outs of developing restaurant brands. As Creative Director and Chief Strategist, Joseph oversees the daily operations of all things Vigor. His expertise and knowledge are infused into every client’s projects making Vigor’s work truly unique and invaluable. Joseph’s work has been recognized by respected industry magazines, and has been published in multiple books on design excellence. He has spoken on the subject of branding and has been quoted throughout articles found on NBCNews.com, SmartBlogs, CentralPenn Business Journal and various other publications.
