
Walter Looss
Bio:
Walter Iooss seems to have an instinctive gift for lighting, composition, and being at the right place at the right time. He is most notable... for his work with Sports Illustrated magazine, which has featured his photos on its cover more than 300 times in addition to his portraits of famous athletes, such as Michael Jordan, Cal Ripken, Jr. and Ken Griffey, Jr. He began formal photography training at an accelerated fundamentals course at the Germain School of Photography in New York while he was still in high school. Soon after, he began regularly contributing to Sports Illustrated, earning his first cover at the tender young age 20. From 1968 through 1972, Walter worked an in-house photographer for Atlantic Records, where his photographer celebrities, such as James Brown, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin. In 1982, he was recruited by Fujifilm to work on an extended study of the athletes training for the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, which resulted in the publication of his book, Shooting for the Gold. In 2004, Walter received a Lucie award for Lifetime Achievement in Sports Photography.
