Michael Furman
Bio:
Michael Furman got his first taste of sports cars in a Jaguar XK120 Roadster. A quick 100mph run with twin brother Marc stuffed in... the boot made the Furman boys sports car lovers for life. It wasn’t long before Michael picked up a camera to photograph a Corvette, and thus began a life-long love affair with cars and cameras. Michael studied photography at Rochester Institute of Technology, and upon graduation in 1974 built a successful business shooting for major clients. But it was a long-standing love of automobiles that led him to the challenge of shooting cars in the studio. He became enamored with these elegant forms; this new path leading to his position as the world’s most sought-after photographer of significant automobiles. Michael’s notoriety grew with the publication of his first book Motorcars of the Classic Era. More than 25 other books have followed, including Curves of Steel, for the Phoenix Art Museum, multiple titles for the Simeone and Mullin museums and Stile Transatlantico the catalog to the Blackhawk Museum exhibition in 2017. His most recent titles, The Face of Change: Portraits of Automotive Evolution, and Badass, had their world premieres at the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Michael is currently working on multiple titles to be released in the coming months. Presentations have included The Beijing Auto Museum, The Ralph Lauren Collection at the MFA, Boston and The Louvre; The Automotive Hall of Fame; gallery exhibitions in Carmel, Santa Fe, Palm Beach and New York City. He has also been honored by, among others, Automobile Quarterly, and The International Historic Motoring Awards. Michael works closely with the Historic Vehicle Association (HVA), Antique Automobile Club of America, and The Simeone Automotive Foundation Museum in Philadelphia. Michael is a regular presence at major concours events around the world as a judge, sponsor and honored guest.Read More
