Born in San Francisco, Cronan studied at the California College of the Arts and Crafts and California State University, Sacramento. He taught at CCAC for twenty years, was a founding member and president of AIGA SF and served on the AIGA national board, the advisory council of the Aspen Design Conference, SFMOMA's Architecture and Design Accessions, and the NEA’s ART WORKS.
