As a part of my degree at Texas Christian University, I took a course titled Corporate Identity that challenged each student to create a company of their choosing and pitch an entire corporate brand. This project gave way to the creation of Outlaw Records.
The primary logo for Outlaw Records features a snake wrapped around a record. By using a minimalistic illustration style for the icon, the logo can fit on pressed vinyls and album covers, a mobile app icon, or is even resizable for web formats. As an overarching brand, Outlaw Records holds the primary snake and record logo as the hero mark. From there the brand was expanded into secondary design elements and smaller subsidiaries to create a full brand vocabulary.
The resulting brand identity captured the essence “outlaw country” music and embodied itself in a record label. Outlaw Records is a country music label, located in Dallas, Texas. The record label represents artists from all over the country, embodying both new and old country music. They know how much country music means to those who listen, as well as those who make it. They want to preserve what country music we have, while also helping new country music thrive.
