Editorial feature spreads design for an article about the effectiveness of pyrethrin flowers as a natural insecticide, and the opportunities the cultivation of the flower has brought to the community of Gilgil, Kenya. The objective for the design was to tell a compelling visual story that focused on the deeply rooted love and nostalgia the locals have for the beautiful but deadly pyrethrum plant.

The concept of roots is used to make delicate typographic details feel like they are growing from the spine and from the columns. The light process of cyanotype similar to the drying process of the flowers, inspired the style of the illustrations. Thoughtfully placed flower elements and insects, create patterns that bloom with character illustrations inspired by local Kenya art.
