How did you manage to get such great results with this photograph?
I watched this herd of grey zebras for a long time. They kept moving and I kept moving, looking for an angle that would incorporate the eye surrounded by stripes with no background. When this one turned his head backwards it put just the right angles and stripes in the frame. I fired off four shots in one second and this was the only one that had what I needed.
To produce the best work for a client, what is the ideal working relationship between you and an art director or designer?
For the designer or art director to give me a clear idea of his objective to a certain extent that also gives me the freedom to improvise on site.
How do you balance commercial work and personal work?
I treat all the commercial work I get involved in as personal work.
