How did you manage to get such great results with this photograph?
It was a cloudy morning and the light was very soft. Willie was actually ready when we pulled up for the shoot (a rarity for most musicians!). Because I didn’t want Willie standing around waiting for me, I shot these while my assistant was unloading my gear. I love the quality of the 665 Polaroid. It has been discontinued and I am hoping someone will step up and bring it back.
To produce the best work for a client, what is the ideal working relationship between you and an art director or designer?
I think it’s about going in with some solid ideas to execute, yet leaving room for spontaneity.
How do you balance commercial work and personal work?
Fortunately, most of my commercial work is personal. Certainly, photographing musicians is a dream job for me. I think some commercial jobs fees allow me to work on things that have little-to-no budget that I still love to do.
