With the launch of the International Integrated Reporting Framework (IIRC), companies where required to visually represent how they created value using the six capitals. Companies need to illustrate the inputs used create the outputs of the current financial year. They also needed to visual represent the various components that make up their business to enable stakeholders to better understand strategy execution as well as exposure to risks and opportunities.

The design was a revolution of the previous year’s look and fell which had launch the Market Demand strategy (MDS). This report focused on visually communicating how Transnet added value using the six capitals as inputs and aligning that to the MDS’s delivery of economic, social and environmental dividends (Outcomes). Huge focus was also placed on graphical illustrating the business model to illustrate how Transnet’s operating divisions work together to achieve greater value creation in the long term.

Transnet is a complex business with a five very different operating divisions. The visual depiction of how Transnet added value aligned to the IIRC and the MDS strategy helped to communicated the company’s intentions to all Stakeholders. Similarly, the graphic illustration of the business model enabled Transnet to communicate its entire business over one double page spread further enhancing the readers understanding of the company.
