Negra 40 is a small community of independent artists in Mar de Plata, Argentina that invited designers from all over the world to design a poster commemorating the 250 years anniversary of the birth of Ludwig Van Beethoven.
Beethoven's music has transcended time, cultures, and disciplines. His music has achieved a global reach that affects not only musicians of all ages but artists in general. Personally, depending on what Beethoven's piece I am listening to, it makes me feel joy, excitement, melancholy, etc. But if asked to describe Beethoven's music, I would say that it is thunderous. With that in mind, and in trying to compare a contemporary genre of music with that of Beethoven, I thought of how rock and roll has also transcend time and cultures, and one of the bands that I believe has achieved that, is the Australian Rock band AC/DC. It is amazing how my 12 year old son sings and rocks to Back in Black, Thunderstruck, and other AC/DC songs that I also used to love when I was his age. The poster was inspired on AC/DC's Let There be Rock album cover released in 1977, and the icon/logo design by Gerard Huerta.
The Negra 40 online exhibition was able to gather more than 80 posters from designers from all over the world (http://www.negra40.com/proyecto/b250-beethoven-250-anos/). This exhibition is planned to be exhibited at MAR / Museo de Arte Contemporáneo in Mar de Plata, Argentina in 202.
