We developed key art for Black Narcissus, a 3-part miniseries that was a re-interpretation of the 1947 film of the same name. We aimed to avoid duplicating imagery directly from the original film, but instead we channeled the same themes through a modern lens.
While the Bell Tower art is more inspired by the setting of the film directly, this poster evokes the psychological themes in its graphic approach: the encroaching blacks mirror the internal struggle of Sister Ruth throughout the course of the series. Sister Ruth, as she’s photographed here, is captured at the moment she leaves the notion of her previous life of chastity and obedience and crosses over, giving in to her temptations.
Complemented by the Primary finish, our Black Narcissus Poster created a dynamic outdoor and online campaign that was well-received by the industry.
