Founded in 1861, Vassar College is a highly selective coeducational liberal arts college. Consistently ranked among the top liberal arts colleges in the country, Vassar is renowned for pioneering achievements in education, curricular innovation, and for the beauty of its campus. Vassar commissioned visual communications firm, Nesnadny + Schwartz (N+S), to create its Online Annual Report to give the Vassar community a year-end summary of noteworthy scholastic accomplishments and report on annual fundraising results. The firm’s role was to develop the conceptual and visual theme, create the overall design, and manage production from inception to delivery.
Vassar required a publication that would accurately communicate the Annual Report theme of “Building Bridges” in a thoughtful and compelling way. Since all imagery was supplied by Vassar, N+S pursued an editorial page layout style, where every spread was treated like a feature story with unique typographically styled headlines and loosely structured photo grids.
The 2013/14 Vassar Annual Report is used by the college to communicate with donors, alumni, students, faculty, administration, and board members, as well as various local, state, and national agencies. The book has been well-received and perceived to be a valuable asset in promoting the school’s many academic and social success stories.
