For this project, I was assigned to create a theatre poster for a randomly assigned play. I was given Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing," a romantic comedy following four characters and their adventures in love. I wanted the poster to be lighthearted and vivid, while also conveying a sense of romance.
To execute this project, I explored various concepts regarding the process of overhearing a conversation and listening to something you shouldn't overhear. The typography dips in and out of the historical window, as though it is eavesdropping on the viewer's thoughts. By using a vibrant image that is appropriate to the time period of the play, the poster is able to give viewers an understanding of the play's atmosphere.
This project was successful. The typography balances out the composition of the image while not distracting from the background. The atmosphere of the piece shows well, as the resulting image is lighthearted, energetic, and vibrant while also remaining true to the play.
