My book design for “The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie” by Muriel Spark is focused on capturing the essence of the 1930’s and the theme of the book. The design uses hints of gold and vintage elements to create the visual of Miss Jean Brodie’s life as she shared her beliefs of love and arts to her students. The green wallpaper gets gradually darker on the back cover, hinting towards the betrayal that takes place later in the book and the fall of Miss Jean Brodie out of her prime. The quote on the back continues the type treatment seen on the cover with one word in gold for emphasis and acts as foreshadowing for the events in the book.
