In honor of Alabama’s 200th anniversary of statehood, we partnered with the Alabama Humanities Foundation to create the Making Alabama Poster Series. The objective of the Power Poster was to vividly capture the historical essence of Alabama from the year 1875 to 1940.
The Power Poster illustrates Alabama’s rise to power as the most heavily industrialized Southern state during this period. The iron and coal booms of the era are represented by an industrial wheel and a miner while a chugging train at the bottom signals swift change in the social, economic and political climate of Alabama.
The Power Poster has captured the imagination of thousands of Alabamians with its vivid portrait of the past. It is now used as a teaching tool for Alabama history on field trips, museum visits and in the classroom.
