In honor of Alabama’s 200th anniversary of statehood, we partnered with the Alabama Humanities Foundation to create the Making Alabama Poster Series. The objective of the Conviction Poster was to vividly capture the historical essence of Alabama from the year 1860 to 1875.
The Conviction Poster illustrates an era of intense division as Alabamians and other Americans went to war for their convictions. A sword severs the American flag symbolizing a nation divided during the Civil War era. With original illustrations, the poster visualizes an intense clashing of values that led to war.
The Conviction Poster has captured the attention of thousands of Alabamians throughout the state. It is now used as a teaching tool for Alabama history on field trips, museum visits and in the classroom.
