Compose a still life of your choice to render in a smoot-tone with graphite pencils. The goal of this project is to perfect a smooth-tone technique. And, to implement the elements and principles of design to create an intriguing composition.
I decided to compose a cookie with a glass of milk to display the temptation of what lies before an audience playfully. Once I made the cookie, I was able to take my shots and deliberate with Prof. Hutchinson on different angles and arrangements of the objects. After selecting the composition, I proceeded to draw and render the objects with graphite pencils. Through patience and determination, I was able to reflect on the natural form of the cookie while keeping my technique as clean as possible.
I am very proud of the final work presented here because it is one of the best still life's I have achieved as far as technique. The gradients are smooth, and the values reflect the image in a complete dark to light scale. In this piece, I learned the importance of forced perspective on a picture versus in a drawing. I plan to correct the base of the glass of milk so that the viewer's eye is not confused by the narrowing of the cup. As an artist, the work is never complete, and I look forward to taking the critiques from this piece and implementing them in the next project.
