Design as a Call to Conscience: The Poster Work of Derwyn Goodall
Canadian designer Derwyn Goodall brings typography and message into striking harmony across a body of work that is equal parts bold, poetic, and socially engaged. With over 75 Graphis awards to his name, his posters cover an extraordinary range—from colorful celebrations of culture and literature to deeply felt responses to global crises. Whether he’s honoring Maurice Ravel’s 150th birthday with vibrant visual rhythm or confronting terrorism with ominous typographic symbolism, Goodall’s work challenges viewers to feel, think, and respond.
This showcase brings together both recent and past Graphis-winning posters, including “Ravel 150,” (above, left), “Terrorism” (Gold, above right), and other celebrated works such as “Canada First, Not Fifty First,” “Vonnegut,” “M.I.A.,” (Silver) and “Nature: Handle with Care” (Silver). Seen together, they reveal a designer who doesn’t just create for attention, but for impact.
