Capturing the Cultural Currency of Collectible Sneakers
For collectors, sneakers are more than footwear—they’re pieces of history, symbols of culture, and investments in style. When Heritage Auctions tasked Andrien Trujillo with photographing their Trifecta Sneakers Showcase, the goal wasn’t just to capture shoes. It was to showcase them as icons worthy of the collectors’ market.
Using a Canon R5 paired with a Canon 24-105mm f/4 IS USM lens, Andrien turned his technical precision and artistic sensibility toward transforming these sneakers into coveted works of art. Employing moody, top-down lighting to create cohesion across the collection, he also gave each pair its own identity by carefully selecting background colors and textures to either contrast with or complement the designs. The result is a series of images that emphasize the rarity and beauty of these collectibles, appealing to the discerning eyes of both sneakerheads and investors.
These aren’t just beauty shots—they’re portraits of legacy. It’s no wonder Andrien’s work left both Heritage Auctions and their external clients thrilled—and earning him Gold recognition in the Photography Awards 2024.
Born and raised in Miami, Florida, I was raised by an artistic family, both in the visual and musical industries. At a very young age, my uncle, who was also a photographer, introduced me to the world of photography. My initial experience was learning the ropes in my uncle’s processing lab.
My admiration for photography continued as a student at Rochester Institute of Technology, where I received my BFA in 2001. Upon graduating, I started working at KSC Studios in Rochester, NY, and NYC. Within a year of working in NY, KSC Studio merged with Studio FX and moved to my hometown in South Florida, now going by One Kreate. In 2014, I relocated to One Kreate's office in San Diego. In December of 2017, I left One Kreate and went to work at Petco as lead photographer.
Working at One Kreate has been an unforgettable experience. It has allowed me to travel the world, as well as meet new people. In working with clients, we form close relationships and friendships. I owe my accomplishments to my clients, co-workers, stylists, assistants, and everyone who is part of the production process. An extra thanks goes to my professors, who provided me with the appropriate tools/guidance in the world of photography. The unending support from my family has been priceless and most appreciated.
