John Gravdahl

Bio:

John Gravdahl is a Director of the Colorado International Invitational Poster Exhibition (CIIPE). He earned his BFA in Graphic Design at Colorado State University in Fort Collins. He worked for design firms in the Rocky Mountain market before establishing a free-lance enterprise with a wide-ranging clientele from small family-owned businesses to high tech corporations and non-profit organizations. He is a Professor of Graphic Design at CSU, and a Core Faculty member at the Richardson Design Center. He received his MFA in Illustration at Syracuse University before founding Propeller Press, winning awards for his children’s books and educational posters. With an extensive international exhibition record he has served as an exhibitor, juror, speaker, and workshop leader at major design exhibitions and conferences on four continents including: Warsaw, Sofia, Shanghai, Seoul, Trnava, Taipei, Moscow, Mexico City, Macau, La Paz, Lahti, Kharkov, Florence, Brno. He recently served as a juror for the Graphis Poster Annual 2024. His Graphis awards include one Platinum Award, eleven Gold Awards, and numerous more Silver Awards in recent Poster and Design Annuals. In 2023 he was simultaneously named a Design Master by the Graphis Institute and featured with a professional profile and interview in the Graphis Journal #379. As the founder of Propeller Press, two children’s picture story books were published with his authorship, illustrations and design concepts: Curious Catwalk and The Tale of Dog Giovanni. His two educational poster series later won international distinction: the Lunchroom Series for nutrition, and the Reading Room Series for literacy. His continuing creative growth expands from this foundation in poster art and book illustration. Overall, he loves sharing his creative energies with his community and with aspiring future colleagues.
