Bio:
During the early days of my career as a photographer I would often browse through the awards publications from the AIGA, the Art Directors Club,... Print Magazine, and of course, Graphis. And early on it became my goal to one day have my work featured in the Graphis Photo Annual. I achieved this goal in 1980, and again the following year, and the photographs chosen were images that appeared the covers of Nautical Quarterly, a beautifully designed, thoughtfully written and illustrated, slipcase-bound ‘magazine’ that was available by subscription only. Though Nautical Quarterly only existed for a scant 48 issues, ‘NQ’ was the gold standard for myself and others in terms of how to do things ‘right’, and the lessons I learned about doing things right came from NQ’s co-founder and designer, B. Martin ‘Marty’ Pedersen. And they remain with me to this very day. Fast-forward 30 years and I find myself taking pictures with gear I never dreamed possible, and writing about my experiences with these new tools in the capacity of Senior Copywriter and Web Content Strategist for B&H Photo, the largest photo retailer on the planet. And the very same skills I learned from Marty on how to compose photographs I now apply to composing words and thoughts about photography and the myriad of imaging tools that make it all possible.Read More
